Christmas Crafting
Oh good grief! I simply cannot make these pictures go the way I want them to! It's been so long since I posted... and I wanted to share some fun ideas with you. We are finally Christmasing up. Yes, darn it, Christmasing is too a verb!
ANYway... we have been doing some fun and easy crafts that I recommend. I know some of you did the altered clipboards - well here are some more things to try. Max loves making the ornaments (also called God's Eyes) with yarn shown along with the sticks needed to make them. A very easy craft that just uses two skinny craft sticks and some yarn.
Another favorite of everyone was using tracers from the Family Fun website and making ornaments. Now what we did was 1. paint them then let dry. 2. Cut them out. 3. Using Mod Podge and a paint brush put the podge where you want glitter and then quickly apply the glitter. Then let dry. A lot. 4. Put a big thick goopy layer of Mod Podge over the whole thing and let dry. The Podge will seal in the glitter and make the ornaments nice and strong for the tree. 5. Finally put a hole in the top with a hole punch and add some ribbon or yarn (if you can wrestle it away from the kiddies making God's Eyes) to hang on the tree.
Right now you should all hop over to the land of Spincerely and thank her for the links to the podge (read both by the way, they are different) and her turning us on to the God's Eyes project. She is a good one for the fiber arts. I am told it is a good project to use up leftover yarn for those of you cross-hobbyists out there. Thank you Spinny.
The yummy food project we worked on (delish!) was to make "sugar plums". This is the marshmallow on a stick things. They were really easy and really fun. Go here for the directions. The picture is of our trial run - but we are making more for the classes and for Christmas Eve at Meme's house.
I hope that you try some of these projects. Do you have any other fun craft ideas? We love trying new ones. The family Fun website has sold me on their magazine by the way. We are making cones to hand out at Christmas time too. Have the ingredients and if I have time I will post pictures later.
Good, I updated my blog. Now I only have 50 bajillion more things to do before Christmas.
Happy Holidays!!!

Oh great, thanks Jen. Now I have a few more things to ADD to my To Do list thanks to your postings of all the homemade handiwork going on at your house. I'll get right on those projects. I'm off to make 9 paper bag minibooks for preschool - does that fill my crafty quota for the week?
Oh my goodness - we are going to HAVE TO make the sugar plums! I think Jade is going to actually faint when she sees those. They are so up her alley it is freaky! Pure happiness for the Spincerely household. It is too bad I already went shopping today and I didn't get any of the things that one would need.
I knew Max is going to be one for the fiber arts. I think he needs a rigid heddle loom for Christmas. Pretty soon he is going to weaving the fabric to clothe your whole family. (Is clothe a word???)
I bought a whole new flavor (for me) of "the podge" at AC Moore this weekend -- Gloss Lustre. I still have to do those paint cans. Plus I have to do my Christmas cards and the other bajillion things that must be done prior to Christmas. I think I need to get some sleep now! Great post btw! I'm going to have visions of sugar plums as I drift off to sleep tonight!
Also - once again - your AvaCroppy is being so much more productive than AvaSpinny. AvaSpinny is just off galavanting in a snowglobe and look AvaCroppy is actually untangling lights and decorating trees and wearing much much more practical clothes than AvaSpinny just hanging out under the mistletoe.
Hey...Speaking of AvaCroppy, her house and AvaKimmy's house not only look identical, they both have the same kid helping to trim the tree...
Hmmmm....
As for crafts, I've had it up to the chin with teachers assigning major reports to be accomanied by art projects, to be done during this busy time of year. Don't they get it that parents are busy right now? In fact I'm off to AC Moore now to buy more feathers for R's hawk model. It's due tomorrow, the model is half done and he, to my knowledge hasn't started the report part of it yet. Arrgh!
And yes, Christmasing is a word, a verb in fact. It's actually used in the song "Merry Christmas Darling" I've only ever heard it sung by Karen Carpenter, but maybe someone else has covered it.
Ooops, that should read "accompanied" not accomanied. Sorry
Hi, Jenny! It's me, Wendy. Got your card! The kids are getting so big. I love your blogging spot. I plan to use some of your ideas. Do you remember my friend, Amy Yankauskas? She is into crafting, so I will forward her your site. I have built and maintain 3 webs....http://www.sussexwantagewrestling.com (town wrestling web...check out pics of Cam), http://pack84.awardspace.com (town cub site) and my own http://wendysweb.awardspace.com
Wrestling season is in full swing, so I have to update that daily....no time to update mine, but you can catch some pics of Halloween (Mom is in some). The music is being played by Cameron. I love your blog. I will be linking your site on mine--just as soon as I update it. I was so happy to "hear" from you (on your site)....... My e-mail is wendygo@earthlink.net. What is yours? I'm sure I'll find it somewhere here on the site.
Merry Christmas!
Wendy
