Little Frogs
These little frogs greeted us our first days here. They were literally all over the place. In the morning there were 30 or 40 hopping around the driveway in the cool wetness. They could also be found all through the grass and hanging in the woodchips. When looking them up to determine their species I believe they are most likely chorus frogs, or possibly spring peepers. I still have to look more. If you recognize them let me know okay? Well, our first day or two the boys had so much fun gently catching them and inviting them into their own personal "frog city" which was a perfect (and very handy) gift from Auntie Kristin. I attempted in the above photo to get a closeup. You would not believe how small these little cuties were.
Max and Ethan even made wood chip floats for our hoppy friends to float about in. Can you spy the frogs on the "log" above?
Here is my favorite frog, Herman, swimming in his frog city. (above)
Here is the good natured Herman on his yacht. That plastic boat has been so much fun for the boys. You should see the critters that have taken rides in it! (above)
Here are the boys playing with Frog City. To help you get the scale. Sorry that all my pics are above my explanations this time instead of below them. Must be too early in the morning for my brain to function. Anyway - back to the frogs. They are gone now (which lends some support to my spring peeper theory) but we enjoyed their friendly hoppy welcome.
PS - Please don't worry - the boys were VERY careful with them and never kept them in Frog city for long. I am proud to say that not even one was harmed!! :)

Hey Jen, How stupid am I? I have been reading your blog since you told me about it at the Harwington Senior Center crop and I just figured out how to respond and drop you a line. I am sorry that I missed your going away party and wished to see you before you left. I am glad that you seem to be settling in some. (BTW, What is wrong with living with your parents until you get on your feet huh?) I will admit that it was heartbreaking to read your last few posts before you left. One more thing...the frogs are so cute, and such an apt welcome for you (I think so anyway!) Good luck house hunting...and don't compromise too much while searching out a school for the kids, nothing could be more important that finding one where they will learn the most and be happy doing it! Now that I know how to chat, I will keep in touch and keep you updated on the mailman situation. Love, Cathy
Hey, love the frogs. We have mosquitos. I'd rather have frogs. At least they don't bite and I think they're cute!
So glad you are back on line!
:)
PS. I commented on my blog (comments) in regard to your comments. ;)
Oh the froggies are so freaking cute! I think they are peepers too. We have peepers here but we very rarely see them -- only when it is very wet out. This is a sad peeper story, but last year one got stuck inside a casement window and then it became petrified. So sad:(
Tell M and E that I LOVE frog city! They rock for *gently* entertaining the froggies. It was sort of like a froggy spa! (Maybe at night after the kids were in bed, the froggies broke out the cards and dice and it became a froggy casino!)
How cute! Where did u get the Frog City???? My kids want one now!!! My one question? If you kiss one now- will the prince come running???
Kimmy
Hey! Avacroppy has a frog city too! She is sooooo cool!
Hey Jen, good to see you are back and you seem happier. It's so nice to see you haven't lost your bunch of "commentators". No one ever comments on mine anymore except my friend Alice. Oh well.
Your guys did a great job with the frogs. I know I wouldn't have gotten that up close and personal with them because of my phobia, but they are cute. I wouldn't keep my kids from them or put my fears onto them or anything, but I had an extremely bad experience with frogs when I was about three years old, and then another, less severe but still grusome experience involving frogs as an adult and I just get really freaked out by them now. Can't help it. Phobias are seldom rational, so I forgive myself for it. In fact, I think the verification word on the screen right now, "qaspawf" means: One who suffers from an irrational fear of frogs due to horrifying past experience.
Give my love to the clan and call me soon.
Love~
Kim
Hi Cathy! So nice to hear from you!!!! Keep commenting, I love feeling connected. You simply MUST keep me updated on the mailman (now we're making everyone wonder....)! You are right - ain't nothing wrong with living with your parents for awhile - has lots of perks too!!!
Hi to Kristy and Spinny - glad you liked the frogs!
Kimmy - let's just hope there are tons of froggie princes on the way. Though I wouldn't trade my "frog prince" for anything. (aw shucks)
Kim I am sorry to hear of your amphibianaphobia. Yipe. Fear of such cuties. We will have to introduce you to some nice ones.
I think the trick to keeping regular commentators is to blog frequently. Not that I'm so good at that - but I think Spincerely would agree that it gets people checking regurarly.
And some people just aren't going to comment, but they are still there making the connection with you.
Thanks for writing though, can't wait to see some pictures of the new deck at the campsite! :)
Thanks everyone!!! - J
Wow, Jenny, I can't thank you enough for your covering the big event! I left MI when the polywogs were miniscule, and your mom told me what happened last year with the frogs, according to her neighbor. So I'm thrilled to see the kids AND the frogs. What beautiful children and what a darling frog home! I'll try to remember what I wrote in my last comment and write more next time. Love, Aunt Barb
P.S. I'm really looking forward to seeing you all soon!
